Leadership Style And Personality Type - 1277 Words
We each have our own style of leadership. When thinking and learning about different leadership styles, it is hard to pinpoint a distinct style as being our own, especially when the way in which we lead may depend upon so many factors. One way that explains an individualââ¬â¢s leadership style is through personality type. The Northouse Skills Inventory and Leadership Trait Questionnaire were very insightful in helping me understand my leadership style (Northouse, 2016). In addition, I have previously understood my leadership style and personality type through the Myers-Briggs Type Indication (MBTI). The Myers-Briggs Type Indication is a personality inventory to make the theory of psychological types as described by psychologist C.G. Jung more understandable (ââ¬Å"The Myers Briggs Foundationâ⬠, n.d). Using the MBTI assessment, I have consistently received the result of ISFJ. This means that I am an introvert, sensor, feeler, and judger. Being an introvert in a world of extroverts, especially in leadership, is hard. Many see introversion as a bad thing and more leaders are extroverted because they are more aggressive at seizing the opportunities to lead. I find myself to have some extraverted tendencies, but at the end of the day I need to recharge after long hours of social interaction, making me an introvert. As a leader, I would excel at a job where I can have social interaction when I want it, but also have time to be alone. Explore how the theme of hunting is used in ââ¬ÅLord of the Fliesââ¬Â and why this is central to the boysââ¬â¢ changing behaviour Free Essays
The theme of hunting is recurrent throughout the novel, and is used to track the boyââ¬â¢s descent into savagery. It starts as a necessity and simply a means of getting food, a common need that the boys all share and benefit from. However, it soon turns into a cultish way of life which divides the ultimately kills members of the group. We will write a custom essay sample on Explore how the theme of hunting is used in ââ¬Å"Lord of the Fliesâ⬠and why this is central to the boysââ¬â¢ changing behaviour or any similar topic only for you Order Now The restraints and rules of society are taken away from the boys quite abrubtly and without warning, and at the beginning it is apparent that they do not really know how to react to this sudden change of lifestyle. However, as the book progresses the boyââ¬â¢s newfound freedom, paired with their immaturity and their fustration with being trapped on the island manifests in a primeval obsession to hunt. Golding portrays the desire to hunt and kill as a primitive urge which lies dormant in each of us, but can take over when in an unnurtured and unrestrained environment. It seems to pronounce itself in each of the boys at different points of the novel; at Simonââ¬â¢s death, even Piggy and Ralph found themselves ââ¬Å"eager to take part in this demented but partly secure societyâ⬠, where ââ¬Å"the desire to squeeze and hurt was over-mastering. I think this is one of Goldings main moral messages, not to let your primeval instincts or the mentality of the people around you to detract away from your moral sense of whatââ¬â¢s right and wrong, and ultimately it is this fatal flaw and the ââ¬Å"darkness of manââ¬â¢s heartâ⬠which led to the downfall of the island. This descent from civilization into savagery is tracked by the progression of hunting, and the transformation of characters in the novel. While Ralph and Piggy remain civilized embassadors of law and order, Jack and the other boys progressively become more and more deranged with every hunt. At the beginning Jack and Ralph were morally and ethically much more similar, but he soon becomes obsessed with the violence and glory that hunting entails, and his appearance and behaviour mirror this descent into savagery. For example, Jackââ¬â¢s once innocently ââ¬Å"freckledâ⬠face becomes obscured by a mask that ââ¬Å"repelled themâ⬠. This indicates a loss of identity, and sheilded by the mask he feels at ease to commit deeds of faceless malevolence against those with which he was once friends. In addition, Jackââ¬â¢s identity evidently disappears completely when he loses his name. He is now so far distanced from the life that he used to lead that he decides to not conform to the use of a forename, and instead answers only to ââ¬Å"the chiefâ⬠ââ¬â a somewhat tribal phrase which suggests inferiority and submission. This failure to abide by the standard expectations of society is suggested very early in the book, when on introduction Jack states ââ¬Å"Why should I be Jack? Iââ¬â¢m Merridew. â⬠The way each character reacts and responds to Jack and his growing tribe and hunting obsession, is key to how they will prevail in the novel, and it is around the motive of hunting and the unmaintainable equilibrium between it and ââ¬Å"building sheltersâ⬠that the main group division is formed. For example, Jack as head of choir falls automatically into the position of head of the hunters. Unknowingly to him and the rest of the group, this initial taste of power and violence will lead to the formation of his savage tribe and the barbaric way of life they end up adopting. Opposingly, Ralphââ¬â¢s negative response to the idea of hunting is an indication as to how he will retain his level head and his sanity throughout the book. The idea that Jack and his boys hunt to kill pigs is very indicative of how events will unravel, and when Jackââ¬â¢s thirst for violence can no longer be satisfied by the killing of a pig, they move onto who they deem as the most unhuman and unworthy member of the group, Piggy, who after weeks of being compared to a pig, is killed in the same manner as one. There are parallels drawn between most of the main characters and the progression of hunting, and Golding uses this to help the reader to track the development of them and the novel. How to cite Explore how the theme of hunting is used in ââ¬Å"Lord of the Fliesâ⬠and why this is central to the boysââ¬â¢ changing behaviour, Papers

Current Perspectives and Future Challenges â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Current Perspectives and Future Challenges. Answer: Introduction: The sessions and seminars attended by me so far have been effective in enhancing my overall learning experience. It can be said that while earlier I had limited knowledge regarding the subject and discipline, attending lectures and seminars as such have provided me with better knowledge in regards with the chosen subject. The wider aspects of accounting and the strategic approaches needed are better understood by me now. After attending the seminar in week 5, the requirement of proper decision making and measurement of the performances within the business environment has been understood by me. While every individual employee strives to provide the organisation with their best effort, it is needed to be ensured that the individual efforts are channelized in a manner to serve the organisational goals (Bennett et al. 2014). Hence, the approaches relating to the measurement of performances were learnt and the importance of the same was recognised by me. On the basis of the seminar and readings of week 5, it has been inferred by me that the decision makers within any organisation are required to be efficient and ensure that the most suitable performance measurement techniques are being applied within the organisation. It will not only enhance and properly direct the individual performances, but will also contribute towards the overall development of the organisations as well (Upadhaya et al. 2014). However, while the performance measurement is initiated by the decision makers, it is important to ensure that standard techniques are being utilised. This will lead to proper determination of the performance level of the employees within any business scenario. Additionally, the performance measurements are required to be recorded in order to ensure that the most effective strategic approaches are being taken by the organisation in order to gain maximum productivity (Cassel et al 2014). The measures required to be taken into account for appropriate determination of performances are now better understood by me. However, it is needed to be understood that the theoretical knowledge are essential to be practically implemented in order to ensure that the best results are being attained. While proceeding with my course in Macquarie, there are various assessment tasks which have been undertaken by me to reflect upon my performance and skills. One of the most beneficial tasks was that of the individual presentation. It provided me with better scope to revise my understanding and attained learning and ensure that I am able to hone my communication skills as well. Additionally, the scope of attaining feedback was another way that was helpful for me to recognise my strengths and the areas in which I have to work on. However, it can be said that the report making assignment was one of the assessments that was not reflecting my comprehensive skills in a proper manner. The word and time limit of the assignment restricted my ability to explore wider aspects relating to the performance measurements. Hence, it did not reflect my understanding regarding the mentioned topic in a proper manner. Overall, the session was helpful for me to understand the twists and bends of performance measurement. The factors which are needed to be considered, techniques which are suitable for different situations and the various perspectives were better understood. As a future accountant, it will be helpful for me in the future to be able to apply these assessment techniques in my professional life. Definition and Examples of Perorations in Rhetoric
Definition and Examples of Perorations in Rhetoric Definition In rhetoric, the peroration is the closing part of an argument, often with a summary and an appeal to pathos. Also called the peroratio or conclusion. In addition to recapitulating the key points of an argument, the peroration may amplify one or more of these points.Ã In many instances, its intended to inspire further emotion, motivation, or enthusiasm in listeners, See Examples and Observations below. This is the opportunity to end on a twenty-one-gun salute, to move the audience to tears of pity or howls of rage, to wheel out your grandest figures and highest-sounding words. It can be like watching Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band close a show with Born to Run and belt the final chorus out four times in a row.(Sam Leith, Words Like Loaded Pistols: Rhetoric From Aristotle to Obama. Basic Books, 2012)Aristotle on the Peroration- The peroration is composed of four things: of getting the hearer favorable to oneself, and ill-disposed towards the adversary; and of amplification and extenuation; and of placing the hearer under the influence of the passions; and of awakening his recollection.(Aristotle, On Rhetoric)- The peroration must consist of one of these four things. Inclining the judge to favor yourself, or to disfavor your adversary. For then, when all has been said respecting the cause, is the best season to praise o r dispraise the parties.Of amplification or diminution. For when it appears what is good or evil, then is the time to show how great or how little that good or evil is.Or in moving the judge to anger, love, or other passion. For when it is manifest of what kind, and how great the good or evil is, then it will be opportune to excite the judge.Or of repetition, that the judge may remember what has been said. Repetition consisteth in the matter and the manner. For the orator must show that he has performed what he promised in the beginning of his oration, and how: namely, by comparing his arguments one by one with his adversaries, repeating them in the same order they were spoken.(Thomas Hobbes, Aristotle; Treatise on Rhetoric, Literally Translated From the Greek, With the Analysis by T. Hobbes, 1681) Quintilian on the PerorationWhat was to follow, was the peroration, which some have termed the completion, and others the conclusion. There are two species of it, the one comprising the substance of the speech, and the other adapted to excite the feelings. The repetition and summing-up of heads, which is called by . . . some of the Latins enumeration, is intended both to refresh the memory of the judge, to set the whole cause at once before his view, and to enforce such arguments in a body as had produced an insufficient effect in detail. In this part of our speech, what we repeat ought to be repeated as briefly as possible, and we must, as is intimated by the Greek term, run over only the principal heads; for, if we dwell upon them, the result will be, not a recapitulation, but a sort of second speech. What we may think necessary to recapitulate, must be put forward with some emphasis, enlivened by suitable remarks, and varied with different figures, for nothing is more offensive tha n mere straightforward repetition, as if the speaker distrusted the judges memory.(Quintilian, Institutes of Oratory, 95 AD) Ethan Allens Peroration in a Speech During the Civil WarGo call the roll on Saratoga, Bunker Hill, and Yorktown, that the sheeted dead may rise as witnesses, and tell your legions of the effort to dissolve their Union, and there receive their answer. Mad with frenzy, burning with indignation at the thought, all ablaze for vengeance upon the traitors, such shall be the fury and impetuosity of the onset that all opposition shall be swept away before them, as the pigmy yields to the avalanche that comes tumbling, rumbling, thundering from its Alpine home! Let us gather at the tomb of Washington and invoke his immortal spirit to direct us in the combat. Rising again incarnate from the tomb, in one hand he holds that same old flag, blackened and begrimed with the smoke of a seven years war, and with the other hand he points us to the foe. Up and at them! Let immortal energy strengthen our arms, and infernal fury thrill us to the soul. One blowdeep, effectual, and foreverone crushing blow upon the rebellion, in the name of God, Washington, and the Republic!(Ethan Allen, peroration of a speech delivered in New York City in 1861) Colin Powells Peroration in His Address to the U.N. Security CouncilMy colleagues, we have an obligation to our citizens, we have an obligation to this body to see that our resolutions are complied with. We wrote 1441 not in order to go to war, we wrote 1441 to try to preserve the peace. We wrote 1441 to give Iraq one last chance. Iraq is not so far taking that one last chance. We must not shrink from whatever is ahead of us. We must not fail in our duty and our responsibility to the citizens of the countries that are represented by this body.(Secretary of State Colin Powell, address to U.N. Security Council, February 5, 2003)The Lighter Side of Perorations: The Chewbacca DefenseLadies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it: that does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. Im a lawyer defending a major record company, and Im talkin about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when youre in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation [approaches and softens], does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.(Animated version of Johnnie Cochran delivering the Chewbacca Defense in his closing argument in the South Park episode Chef Aid)
